Narcissism

Many selfie-haters will frequently argue that selfies promote narcissism. However, Syme doesn’t think this argument can stand. Ovid wrote that Narcissus fell in love with himself and “closed the loop” preventing anyone but himself to observe or comment on his appearance or reflection. But, selfies don’t “exist in a vacuum”. They are most often shared with mass amounts of people who are able to openly critique it.

Being a narcissist is more than just being "full of one's self". According to Gwendolyn Seidman, a writer for Psychology Today and associate professor of psychology at Albright College, narcissism consists of several related qualities. The qualities of Narcissism are: Self-sufficiency: thinking you can do things on your own and don’t need other people; Vanity: concern about appearance and a tendency to admire your own physical appearance; Leadership: believing that you should have authority over other people, and being willing to exploit other if necessary; Admiration Demand: feeling entitled to special status or privileges, and feeling superior to others.
