- I shared the class Dropbox folder with the email you gave to me. In the folder is a document called "wiki updates - group assignments." This document shows the breakdown of groups who will rotate through roles updating key terms on the key terms directory, adding Resources, or taking the week off. Wiki updates start next week! Be sure to check the class schedule to see what key terms need definition. You can use my key terms and also add your own.
- FOR EDITING THE WIKI:
- Here is a really helpful "wiki markup cheat sheet" that you can use to remember how to format things on this wiki: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/Wiki_markup_cheatsheet_EN.pdf
- Here is an explantation of stuff in the editing toolbar: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Edit_toolbar
- There is a also a general Wikimedia user help page here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents (Wikimedia is the software that I am running for this wiki. Wikipedia also uses Wikimedia software. I know that is confusing!!)
Week 2
Please create an account on this wiki if you haven't already.
Also, sign up for a free Dropbox account and add your email address to the Google doc I sent around via email this weekend. If you are unfamiliar with how to use Google Docs, check out the "Getting Started" guide here.
For Tuesday, please read the introduction and Chapter 1 of Alice Marwick's book Status Update. For Thursday, we'll continue to question myths like digital exceptionalism and techno utopianism with "Whose Internet Is It Anyway?: A Dialogue On Race, Gender, And The Digital Space".
Upcoming events and important dates
This week is "internships week," a series of events for anyone thinking about getting an internship. These events are sponsored by the career development center (CDC). Click here to download the CDC's whole schedule, including dates and times for internship events this week.
Also, AND THIS IS A BIG ONE, the Jackson Katz presentation is tomorrow at 7pm in the Foley Center! He will be speaking on masculinity and gender-based violence. He is a dynamic speaker and you don't want to miss it.
Lastly, please get this on your radar: on February 9 in the Banquet Hall in Campion, SJU will host a Beautiful Me workshop, which is a self-esteem program designed to educate women by promoting appreciation for their genuine qualities, accurate self awareness, and the satisfaction of helping others. You have to RSVP by Feb. 5, and here's the link. This program is provided free of charge from the Hance Family Foundation.
This event is related to the Love Your Body Fair Tuesday Feb. 9 in Campion during free period. Please check out both events!
